10 years in new business, with our values in the driving seat.

At the end of our recent journey together, and to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we boiled our values down to three main components. Below are the things that we decided were most important to us, both individually, and collectively as a team.

You can also read in last week’s blog, why values are crucial for your business – here.

People

Happy, motivated, engaged employees, clients, and partners. Without a doubt, people are, and have always been, our life-blood – and therefore our greatest asset. We kind of knew it already, but it was helpful to really zero in on it, because it now shapes the way we think and function as a business. We have always strived to have open and honest relationships with our team, making sure they know we can always talk to each other about any issues, business or personal, and figure out solutions to any problems together.

Likewise, we have always treated our clients like partners, rather than clients, and we have been lucky enough in most cases, for them to reciprocate. But, once we established this, we realised that we can be doing much more. We’re currently looking at a number of ways we can use our excess resources, to give a little back, for example, to local business owners, volunteer groups, and communities. It’s a great way to keep in touch with what’s going on in the real world and to keep us focused and engaged as a team.

Planet

We have always tried to have as green a business model as possible. We started out as remote workers, partly for this reason. By cancelling the daily commute, and thereby reducing carbon emissions related to transport, we always felt it would be a better way of working for the planet. This was back in 2012 when few employers trusted their staff to work from home because they felt that productivity levels would go down. In fact, it had exactly the opposite effect. We found that, by using technology to keep track of productivity, our (now distraction-free) remote working team were more productive, than if they had been sat in an office.

A few years later, of course, the Pandemic came along and changed everything. Suddenly, employers’ hands were forced by lockdowns and the remote working model became a reality – and one which many companies have now embraced as the norm. We were banging this drum from the start and never looked back. Of course, we do like to get together in person from time to time, which is why we moved into a shared office space, but even then, we always had a hybrid model of working.

Establishing planet as one of our values has made us even more conscious of the bigger picture, and we are now looking at other initiatives we can get involved with, and changes we can make to our processes, to make an even bigger impact. As part of this vision, we are working with more sustainability-focused companies, and getting involved in things like reforestation programmes, to reduce our own carbon footprint further, and hopefully inspire other businesses to do the same.

Profit

Last but not least – profit. We are still focused on helping our clients to be profitable. We want to help companies that are on a mission to make the world a better place, whatever that mission might be. But the bottom line is, that they can’t do all the amazing things that they are trying to do, without being profitable. At the end of the day, we are a new business agency, so profit has to be a core value for us.

The process we put in place many years ago was designed to work with our clients throughout their entire sales cycle, not just up front. It’s what distinguishes us between a lead generation company and a new business agency.

With these three values now driving us a team, we have more clarity and vision than we’ve ever had before – all of which amount to an optimistic future and hopefully some exciting times ahead.

If any of the above resonates with you, and you’d like to have a chat about growing your business and communicating your values to the world, we’d love to hear from you.
